City on a Hill

Deplorable, I'd rather be
Than unctuous, blind before a crown
Gained only by nefarious means;
Guilt?  Admit?  It is renowned
Among these deemed unwashed, unclean
Masses who desire wall
And dare to speak, heart and mind,
Before they see a nation fall,
That once stood proud, enlightened city
On a hill, heaven's hold
Upon the earthly bonds of men,
To bid them heaven's truth be told.

  1. Martha, timely words I think? America is not the nation it once was...we've changed from what the founding fathers had in mind, I think.

    1. Indeed, things have changed, and not for the better. Hopefully, this election cycle will give us the leader strong enough to turn things around.

  2. Ah yes...to be counted as one of the "deplorables", knowing that the truth is we are Christ followers, standing strong to share His love and truth with a world lost in darkness. Yes, we are to be that city on the hill...letting our light shine forth. Thank you for becoming one of my new friends today! Looking forward to getting better acquainted in the days to come.

  3. Oh, and I am certainly looking forward to knowing you better, too, Pamela! As Christ told us long ago, we will be the deplorable - the world has no affection for us, yet we are called to shine the light of God's love, and we will!

  4. We are America! Stand proud, sure and knowing that our Freedom, our pursuit of Liberty, is not something set in stone, by Founding Fathers but a daily breathing living of protecting, nurturing and loving it enough to be willing to give ones life for it, as so many have for each of us.
